Govt looking into new issues raised by Anil: Gupta
Saturday, May 28 2005 16:19 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Government today (May 28, 2005) said it was looking into "new issues" raised by Reliance Group Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Anil Ambani, engaged in a public battle with elder brother Mukesh, over the ownership of the group.

"Some new issues have been raised by Anil in his complaint to us... the Government is aware of its duties and is looking into them," Company Affairs Minister Prem Chand Gupta said in New Delhi.

He declined to give details saying the Government was awaiting a final report on the complaints made by Anil.

"I can't comment on the matter until I receive the final report," he said, speaking on the sidelines of a function organised by Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI).

He said Reliance was a big corporate entity of the country and it was not right to make any comment just on the basis of speculation.

The Minister said the Government had also looked into issues raised by Anil earlier on missing files and papers, and found that the allegations were not correct.

The younger Ambani, Anil, has repeatedly raised the issues of corporate governance and lack of transparency on financial matters of the group companies.

Last month he declined to sign the financial accounts of the group's flagship company RIL, headed by elder brother Mukesh, and had made public his dissent at the Board Meeting on April 27.
