Thursday, April 21 2005 09:29 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

London: Mittal Steel Company, owned by NRI steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal, yesterday (Apr 20, 2005) said it was very interested in the Indian market and would look at appropriate opportunities as they present themselves but denied reports that it had proposed to build a steel plant in Jharkhand.

Reports in a section of the media has said that Mittal Steel had submitted a proposal to the Jharkhand State Government to build a $ 5.5 billion steel plant.

"No discussions have taken place and no proposal has been submitted," the company said in a statement in London.

"As we have previously stated, Mittal is a global company and we are very interested in the Indian market and would look at appropriate opportunities as they present themselves," the world's largest steel company said.
