Thursday, April 21 2005 17:30 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Bangalore: US-based Agilent Technologies today (Apr 21, 2005) said it plans to tap the growing life sciences market in India with its DNA micro-array based genomics solutions and expand its presence into medical research, drug discovery and agro-biotech industries.

"Our life sciences and chemical analysis business had double-digit growth last year. India is the fastest growing market for us," Agilent's LSCA business country manager Sanjeev Dhar told reporters in Bangalore.

The Indian micro-array market is estimated to grow by approximately 70 per cent in 2005, Agilent, quoted a study by genomics and bioinformatics firm Genotypic.

He said the DNA micro-array based genomics solutions, which improve the productivity of gene-expression and genomics research, will be introduced in the Indian market.

Dhar said the applications of the solutions include gene expression, toxicogenomics, comparative genomic hybridisation and agro-biotech.
