Tuesday, April 12 2005 09:58 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Bangalore: Chinese Telecom major Huawei Technologies yesterday (Apr 11, 2005) bagged a $ 70 million contract from the Delhi-based HFCL Infotel to supply telecom products and solutions for its networks in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

Huawei India Chief Operating Officer (COD) Chen Lian and HFCL CEO Surendra Lunia signed a three-year agreement in Delhi to this effect at a meet organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Huawei Technologies said in a statement in Bangalore.

Huawei has bagged the contract a day after Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao visited the software Research and Development (R&D) hub of the Chinese firm in India, the largest outside China.

Huawei will supply CDMA (code divisional multiple access) network and terminals, fixed network solutions, intelligent network and optical transmission solutions for the expansion of HFCL's telecom services in the country.

HFCL was formerly known as Himachal Futuristics Communications Ltd. "As per the agreement, we will supply, install and commission the equipment and provide after-sales services to ensure efficiency of HFCL's network in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir," Huawei said.

Huawei, which entered the Indian telecom equipment market two-three years ago has gained a significant market share in telecom solutions to service providers.
