Sensex meets fresh selling; declines to 6597.35 pts Tuesday, April 5 2005 12:16 Hrs (IST) - World Time -  Mumbai:
The Sensex started on a better note, but soon met with fresh selling and declined at the opening session on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) today (Apr 5, 2005).
The 30-share sensitive index resumed better at 6611.53 as against yesterday's (Apr 4, 2005) close of 6604.42 and moved up to a high of 6621.91. Thereafter it declined sharply and was quoted at 6597.35, showing a fall of 7.07 over the previous close.
Operators and investors made fresh selling, as they remained cautious ahead of the corporate results to be announced in the second and third week of this month, a broker said.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) had also slowed down their activity, which further restricted activity by local operators, another broker said.
During early trade, RIL, ACC, HDFC Bank, Hindalco, Dr Reddy, ITC, Infosystech, Ranbaxy and Zee remained firm on good support.
On the other hand, Bharti, Cipla, GACL, Grasim, Tata Motor, BHEL, HLL, Tata Steel, Satyam Comp, Wipro, L&T, HPCL, ICICI Bank, Hero Honda, Grasim and Maruti declined.
