Sensex opens up, turns volatile in morning trading Friday, April 1 2005 11:30 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

The Sensex today (April 1, 2005) opened moderately up and later witnessed volatile movements in a range of about 45 points during morning trading on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on alternate bouts of buying and selling.
The BSE Benchmark 30-share Index opened up at 6506.60 as against yesterday's (Mar 31, 2005) close of 6492.82 and later fluctuated in a range of 6513.27 and 6468.52 before being quoted at 6503.11 at 10:30 hrs (IST), up by 10.29 points.
After covering their short positions at the end of March Contract in derivatives yesterday, operators and retailers adopted wait and watch policy and preferred to book profits whenever the market witnessed rally.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) too have slowed down activity since last week. FIIs reported a meagre net investments of Rs 9.30 crore on Wednesday (Mar 30, 3005).
Brokers said the market is likely to remain volatile for a few days before any positive development takes place. Investors would prefer to wait till the working results by corporates are announced during the next month.
Key stocks like Satyam Computers, ITC, RIL, ICICI Bank, Hero Honda, Dr Reddy's, Cipla and BHEL were quoted remarkably higher on fresh buying support.
However, Bajaj Auto, HDFC, HPCL, Wipro and ONGC showed marked falls on selling pressure.
