BJP ruled States not to implement VAT from April 1
Saturday, March 19 2005 14:46 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ruled States today (Mar 19, 2005) decided not to implement Value Added Tax (VAT) from April 1.

"The States are not ready to implement VAT from April 1 and we do not want to hasten it," Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh said in New Delhi after a meeting of Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled States.

"Some States have expressed their opposition to that, while in some other it is either in the process of being worked out or to be put before the Assembly."

All States are in different stages of preparation for implementation of VAT and therefore efforts should be made to form a consensus in the country so that some States do not suffer on account it," Singh added.
