Karnataka has provided Rs 95 crore as State support for the proposed International airport at Devanahalli, while earmarking Rs 109 crore for the proposed Metro rail project in Bangalore.
Presenting the Budget proposals for 2005-06 in the State Assembly today (Mar 11, 2005) Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the Government had allocated Rs 95 crore for the Greenfield Bangalore international airport, which is expected to position the city as an important passenger and cargo hub in the region and provide a great fillip to tourism and exports.
On the Metro rail, he said that the State Cabinet recently had cleared the project and was awaiting clearance from the Centre.
"For implementation of this project, I propose to set apart Rs 109 crore," Siddaramaiah, who holds the Finance portfolio, said.
He said the Budget had earmarked Rs 51 crore for many railway projects, which were being undertaken on a cost-sharing basis with the Railways.
