Costlier fuel pushed up Inflation to 4.95 per cent

New Delhi: Costlier fuel products and manufactured items including edible oils pushed up inflation to 4.95 per cent during the week ended February 26.

The point-to-point Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation rose by 0.12 per cent from the previous week's level of 4.83 per cent despite cheaper mass consumption primary articles.

The price level as high as 5.21 per cent in the previous year period.

The broad-based WPI was down by 0.1 per cent to 188.7 points during the week in review and it was 179.8 points in the year ago period.

Government revised downwards inflation to 5.72 per cent during the week ended January 1, as compared to provisional level of 5.78 per cent.

The WPI stood corrected at 188.5 points in the beginning of January this year as against provisional estimate of 188.6 points.
