Fixed wireless services to remain on premises: TRAI Saturday, March 5 2005 14:10 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Telecom regulator has directed operators to strictly ensure that the terminal used for fixed wireless services is strictly confined to the premises of the subscriber and warned of action under the licence agreement in case of any violation.
"As the issue of mobility has implications with respect to applicability of Access Deficit Charge (ADC), the Authority directs you to strictly ensure that the terminal used for fixed wireless services is strictly confined to the premises of the subscriber", Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said.
It should also be noted it is the licensee's responsibility to ensure that the subscriber terminal is operated in accordance with the terms of the licence for fixed lines, the regulator said.
All access providers should also ensure there are no misleading advertisements in the electronic and print media, it added.
TRAI said that it has come to the notice of the Authority that new terminals being deployed by access providers do not have any fixed network access point physically located at the address of the subscriber.
"In this regard, certain complaints including those of misleading advertisements, have been received by the Authority and subsequently show cause notices issued to the concerned operators. The responses given by the service providers were not found to be in order," the regulator said.
