Sensex soars to a new high of 6849.31 at midsession Friday, March 4 2005 14:46 Hrs (IST) - World Time -  Mumbai:
The Sensex soared further to touch another record high of 6849.31 points during the mid-session on Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on persistent heavy buying activity.
The 30-share sensitive index, which opened firm at 6798.62, continued its upward march with occasional downtrend and touched an all-time intra-day high of 6849.31 at around 12:45 hrs (IST).
Later, the Sensex was quoted at 6835.22 at 13:20 hrs (IST), showing an impressive rally of 50.50 points over yesterday's (Mar 3, 2005) close of 6784.72.
The index-heavyweights which rallied sharply helping the Sensex to touch the new high were ONGC, BHEL, HDFC, Infosystech, ITC, L&T, Ranbaxy, RIL, Wipro and Zee Tele.
Elsewhere, ACC, Cipla, Dr Reddy, GACL, HDFC, HDFC Bank, Hindalco, Maruti, Hero Honda, REL, Satam Comp, Tata Motors and Tata Power also showed good gains on frantic buying.
