Ikanos launches fibre-fast broadband solution
Wednesday, February 23 2005 17:19 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Bangalore: Silicon Valley-based Ikanos Communications today (Feb 23, 2005) launched 100/100 Mbps fibre-fast broadband solution in India targeting businesses and consumers.

The solution, Fx 100100 chipset, is the first programmable silicon solution to provide fibre-fast speeds of up to 100 Mbps in both the upstream and downstream over the carrier's existing telephone lines, Ikanos India's managing director Ravi Shankar said in Bangalore.

"The Fx 100100 enables carriers to increase their revenue stream by offering subscribers the same high-speed symmetric bandwidth that customers are used to receiving from their Ethernet LANs," Ravi Shankar said.

He added, "Businesses and residences alike need the high bandwidth that only the Fx 100100 provides for applications such as real-time videoconferencing, peer-to-peer file sharing, and high volume data transfer."

Ikanos, which has operations in US, Canada, China, Europe, Japan and Israel, among others, also announced that it is expanding its R&D centre facility in Bangalore with plans to double its number of engineers to 80 by the middle of this year.

The company's R&D centre in Bangalore is focusing on hardware and software design and development, and will also provide worldwide support and marketing functions. The company said that it is a leader in digital signal processing, analog, and algorithm designs.
