Wednesday, February 9 2005 11:29 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Mumbai: The sensex started on a positive note and continued to rise on good buying activity with most of the index heavyweights showing good gains at the opening session on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) today (Feb 09, 2005).

The BSE Benchmark 30-share Index opened higher at 6556.53 points as against yesterday's (Feb 08, 2005) close of 6544.77 and rose further to a session's high of 6589.46 and was quoted at 6583.52 at 10:30 hrs (IST), 38 points higher than the previous close.

The market yesterday staged a smart rebound towards the fag-end on fresh bouts of buying and the firm trend was extended today during the early trade on increased buying mainly by operators and retail investors, dealers said.

During the opening session, a large number of blue chip counters such as Larsen & Toubro, State Bank, ONGC, RIL, REL, ACC, Bharti, Cipla, Dr Reddy, GACL, Grasim, HDFC Bank, Hero Honda, HPCL, ICICI Bank, Infosystch, ITC, Ranbaxy, Tata Motors, Tata Power, Tisco, Wipro and Zee were fairly strong.
