Mumbai:
Heavy profit-taking today (Feb 7, 2005) ensured a correction at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), bringing down the Sensex by 83.06 points to close at 6535.17, despite a positive start even as foreign funds, the market-mover, played a low profile amidst the selling.
The 30-shares sensitive index resumed higher at 6652.33 as against the previous close of 6618.23 and rose further to a high of 6658.33.
However, hectic profit-selling emerged later and pulled the Sensex down to a low of 6514.86, before settling at 6535.17, showing a whopping fall of 83.06 points or 1.26 per cent over Friday's levels.
"A resurgent dollar overseas probably was the cause of the slowdown in FII inflows after pumping in a massive Rs 4211 crores ($ 958 million) last week", a dealer said adding, "A technical correction was overdue after the recent spurt."
