FIIs net buyers in equities at Rs 4,211 crore

Mumbai: The foreign institutional investors (FIIs) recorded net purchases of Rs 4,211 crore ($ 958 million) in equities for the trading week ended February 4 while mutual funds (MFs) were net sellers at Rs 134.43 crore.

The foreign funds were net purchasers at Rs 352 crore ($ 80.1 million) in the debt market for the period under review, according to the data available with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) in Mumbai.

The mutual funds were also net purchasers in the debt market at Rs 1274.69 crore.

Overseas funds were net buyers in equities on all five trading days of the week.

The foreign funds recorded their highest net inflow of the trading week in equities at Rs 1,374 crore ($ 312.40 mn) on February 3 followed by Rs 895.30 crore ($ 203.60 mn) on February 1.

FIIs registered the highest net inflow in the debt market on February 3 at Rs 172.30 crore ($ 39.20 mn).

MFs were net sellers in equity market on all trading days except on February 2 when they purchased equity at Rs 43.99 crore.

They sold shares to the tune of Rs 112.95 crore and Rs 49.23 crore on February 1 and January 31 respectively.

On debt front, MFs were net purchasers at Rs 486.58 crore on February 3.

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), during the week under review, saw the Sensex gaining 199 points to close at 6618.23 above the previous week's close.
