Wipro eyes domestic BPO sector; wants law changed Friday, January 21 2005 14:25 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bangalore:
IT major Wipro is in talks with software industry body NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Service Companies) and the Government to allow the use of BPO infrastructure created for export oriented units to serve customers in the Indian market.
"There is a huge potential for domestic BPO business. But we have a legal hitch, that the infrastructure created for export units cannot be shared to serve customers in India," Wipro Spectramind CEO Raman Roy told reporters in Bangalore.
He said the quality service customers across the world experience from Indian call centre agents can be replicated if the sharing of infrastructure is allowed and Wipro is in talks with NASSCOM and the Government in this regard.
"Besides telecom, the Indian market offers a huge opportunity in BPO services for manufacturing," Roy said.
Wipro Spectramind employs 14,340 people in seven centres across India including Noida, Mumbai and Kolkata.
He said Wipro Spectramind was looking at entering the transaction processing business where the value realisation was higher than the vanilla BPO business.
