Jhunjunwalla, Ramachandran resign from REL Board

Mumbai: Amitabh Jhunjunwalla, a nominee of Reliance Industries Ltd on the board of Reliance Energy Ltd, has resigned from the board.

The resignation of Jhunjunwalla has been accepted by the board, a company spokesman said today (Jan 19, 2005).

Jhunjhunwalla, had already resigned as a treasurer of RIL.

The board of Reliance Energy Ltd also approved the resignations of J Ramachandran, an independent director.

Ramachandran in his resignation said, "Given the recent developments and some comments regarding my independence, I thought it best to resign as a director for higher standards of corporate governance require not independence just in terms of fact, but even more importantly, independence in terms of perception."
