Thursday, December 30 2004 11:50 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Mumbai: The Sensex opened remarkably higher in line with stock-specific rally and once again crossed the 6600-mark during morning trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) today (Dec 30, 2004) on sustained buying by foreign as well as local funds.

The BSE-30 share sensitive index resumed strong at 6583.74 as against yesterday's close of 6567.94 and moved in a range between 6607.34 and 6580.52 before being quoted at 6597.86 at 10.30 am, up by 29.92 points.

On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the S&P CNX Nifty was also up by 10.45 points to 2280.05 at 10.30 am from previous close of 2069.60.

Showing positive attitudes towards reform process by the Congress-led UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government mainly boosted the market sentiment and gave right signals to the Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs), dealers said.

In a major move, the Cabinet yesterday (Dec 29) evening liberalised the aviation sector by allowing domestic private airlines to operate on international routes, except to gulf countries and the Government is also formulating a major plan for liberalisation of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the banking, telecom and insurance sectors for which the roadmap will be declared in next few days, they added.
