RIL not consulted on amendment of Article of Assoc Thursday, December 23 2004 11:11 Hrs (IST) - World Time -  New Delhi:
Hitting back at Anil Ambani who headed REL's move to confer more powers on Reliance Industries Limited Chairman Mukesh in relation to the energy company, the RIL last night (Dec 22, 2004) said that it has not sought any such powers.
Referring to REL's notice to Bombay Stock Exchange on Tuesday (Dec 21, 2004) on its proposal to amend its Articles of Association to provide for Chairmanship for Mukesh in REL, a RIL spokesman last night said, "RIL has not been consulted by REL before the proposed re-amendment of the relevant Articles of Association."

"RIL has not sought, in any manner, withdrawal of any powers conferred by it on Anil D Ambani", the spokesperson added.
In February 2003, RIL had intimated to BSES (as it was known then) that Anil Ambani and Satish Seth are designated to be the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of BSES (later renamed as REL).
It was also informed RIL'S right to appoint majority of directors on the Board of Directors of BSES will be exercised by Anil Ambani on its behalf.

In March 2004, the relevant Articles of Association of REL was amended at an Extraordinary General Meeting of REL vesting such powers with Anil Ambani.
Now a notice has been issued for REL for re-amending the Articles of Association to revert to the pre March 2004 position.
