Baazee CEO's arrest too drastic: Narayana Murthy
Tuesday, December 21 2004 14:18 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Bangalore: Terming the arrest of Baazee.com CEO Avnish Bajaj in the MMS scandal by Delhi police as "too drastic", Infosys chairman and chief mentor N R Narayana Murthy today (Dec 21, 2004) said there was a need for framing proper laws for electronic auctions.

"In my opinion this (arrest) is too drastic," Murthy told reporters in Bangalore at the Stanford-India development conference.

He said electronic auctions is the main business of the website as a "new paradigm" and there was a need to educate people who buy and sell things on the auction portal on doing the right things.

"Education is the key thing. We need to spend more time in framing proper laws for electronic auctions, then we can avoid going for these type of drastic actions," Murthy said, while maintaining that it would be inappropriate to comment as he was unaware of the details of the scandal, where a pornographic MMS of school students was sold on the website by an IIT student.

"We need to create a kind of opinion where everybody understands the implications and everybody understands the rules of the game," he said.
