Airtel mulling to expand customer base to 1.25 mn

Mangalore: Mobile service provider Airtel, is contemplating to expand its customer base to 1.25 million during the current financial year, Rohit Malhotra, vice-president (Sales and Marketing), Bharathi Cellular Limited (BCL), Karnataka, said today (Dec 21, 2004).

The company has increased its cell site count to 152 from 126 to service the needs of 1.87 lakh customers in South Karnataka, he told reporters in Mangalore.

With the expansion in ten new towns, the Airtel mobile network in South Karnataka now covers 87 towns, he said.

Now the company is the largest network in the State covering 230 towns, he claimed.

South Karnataka has 26 Airtel points and planning to set up three more points in Bhadravathi, Sagar and Kumta in the next three weeks, Malhotra said.
