Sensex shows erratic movements during early trading
Thursday, December 9 2004 11:20 Hrs (IST) - World Time

Mumbai: The Sensex moved erratically after a promising start in volatile activity during morning trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) today (Dec 9, 2004) on alternate bouts of buying and selling by local investors.

The BSE Benchmark 30-share Index opened up at 6274.24 as against yesterday's close of 6261.52 but later fluctuated in a range of 6276.71 and 6241.27 before being quoted at 6276.47 at 10.30 am, up by 14.95 points.

Operators and retail investors seemed to be in a mood to avail any opportunity to book profits at the higher price levels, brokers said.

The principal driving force behind the market, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) reported net investments of Rs 305.20 crore on Tuesday.

The market is expected to see increased flow of funds from January 2005 following a decision by the Finance Ministry to switch off a scheme for Central Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) to park their surplus cash with the Government.

Blue-chip counters including Zee Telefilms, Wipro, L&T, Infosys Tech, HDFC Bank, HDFC, Grasim, Satyam Computers, GACL, BHEL, ACC, Bajaj Auto and Bharti Tele-venture were quoted remarkably up.

However, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, REL, ICICI Bank, HLL and Cipla witnessed fairly heavy selling.
