CPI seeks Centre's intervention in Ambani tussle Thursday, December 9 2004 16:38 Hrs (IST) - World Time New Delhi:
Expressing serious concern over "vitiating" corporate atmosphere in the country following the ongoing tussle between the two brothers of the Ambani family, CPI (Communist Party of India) today (Dec 9, 2004) sought Centre's intervention on the plea that it was affecting FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) flow, stock market and the investors.
"The corporate rivalry of the two brothers of one the India's top most industrial house coming into public is affecting India's image. It is just not the family affairs but is also vitiating corporate atmosphere," CPI leader Gurudas Das Gupta told reporters.
He said the verbal tussle between the two brothers--Anil and Mukesh Ambani--having political patronage-- were affecting the FDI inflow, stock market and the investors and wanted the "Central Government to do whatever is possible so that it should not degenerate further."

Addressing a press conference with Parliamentary Party Leader P K Vasudevan Nair, he said the party was "distressed" at the way POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act) law was repealed without consulting the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) partner, particularly the Left parties, even rejecting the suggestion of referring the Bill to Standing Committee.
Asked why he was raising the issue through the press when there is a Left-UPA coordination Committee, Gupta said whenever there was a United Front Government, differences is bound to come but asserted that "this unity and front will continue".
They can not leave us, we can not leave them. The compulsions of objective reality is that neither Congress nor Left could form a Government on their own and they joined hands to defeat fascist and communal forces," he said.
Asked if it meant Left was compromising on its policies and principles, Gupta denied it and said it was because of Left party, several welfare measures were taken up by the Congress-led Government at the Centre including 100-days of employment to at least one individual in a family.
Seeking better coordination and consultations among the UPA partners while the Parliament was in session, Gupta also urged the Government to expedite the implementation of its NCMP (National Common Minimum Programme) and take determined step to ameliorate the distress of the people--poverty and unemployment.
The CPI leader also termed as "unfortunate" the verbal dual between two Union Ministers Laloo Prasad Yadav and Ram Vilas Paswan saying the party did not approved it.
