New Delhi:
Morocco today (Dec 7, 2004) sought foreign investments from India and collaboration in diversified fields.
This was conveyed by visiting Moroccan Prime Minister Driss Jettou during a 30-minute meeting with President A P J Abdul Kalam in New Delhi.
The two sides discussed a host of bilateral matters with focus on how bilateral trade could be bolstered, besides regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Kalam said information communication technology was one of the important sectors where India could be a useful partner for Morocco.
On a four-day visit, Jettou will hold intensive parleys with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Bilateral trade in 2003 between India and Morocco touched $ 423 million. Indian exports touched $ 213 million while imports accounted for $ 210 million.
Morocco's geo-strategic position, its strategic stability, economic openness and potential are viewed by New Delhi as favourable indicators for enhancing cooperation.
Good seaports, air links and infrastructure facilities as well as availability of trained manpower makes Morocco an attractive investment destination.
Some of the areas for increased cooperation include tea, tobacco, pharmaceuticals, tourism, agricultural machinery as well as renewable sources of energy and IT.
