Sensex rallies past 6200 as the upsurge continues

Mumbai: The Sensex opened strong and rallied past 6200-mark in line with continued upsurge in stocks during morning trading on the Stock Exchange in Mumbai today (Nov 30, 2004) on the back of unabated flow of foreign investments.

After opening firm at 6195.02 as against yesterday's (Nov 30, 2004) close of 6157.77, the BSE Barometer rallied sharply to a high of 6224.70, a few points away from the historic high of 6249.60 hit on January 1, 2004.

The BSE Benchmark 30-share Index, however later fell back due to profit booking by investors and was quoted at 6198.85 at 10.30 hrs (IST), still up by 41.08 points.

Broker attributed the upbeat mood to heavy FII inflows. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) reported hefty net purchases of Rs 1178.50 crore in first three sessions during last week.
