Spectramind goes bullish, hires 1,800 every month Saturday, November 20 2004 12:37 Hrs (IST)
Kolkata:
With George W Bush returning as US President for the second successive term, Wipro Spectramind, the BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) arm of IT major Wipro Limited, is bullish about growth and adding 1,800 to the existing headcount every month at its facilities.
Chief executive officer of Wipro Spectramind Raman Roy told reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of Kolkata Development Centre in Kolkata on Friday (Nov 19, 2004), "Since outsourcing is a major economic decision, it will not be affected on who comes to power. However, continuity definitely has its plusses," Roy said.
Speaking about the growth plans of the company, Roy said that they were in the process of identifying the location for setting up the next development centre, adding that the choice of the venue would be either Goa or Coimbatore.
At the end of the last quarter, Spectramind's headcount all over India was 13013, adding the just-opened Kolkata centre was already employing 1000 software professionals to start with.
Asked whether the bandh culture in West Bengal was a major cause for concern for carrying out BPO operations, Roy said that this had been a major area for client resistance.
The Kolkata centre has three clients at the moment.
