Wednesday, October 27 2004 10:33 Hrs (IST)

Durban: Indica and Indigo, the two models from the Tata Motors stable will soon be available in South Africa within a month, Tata Group chairman Ratan N Tata has announced.

The chairman, who made the announcement at the Auto Africa exhibition in Johannesburg where the cars are on display said the group was "confident that the Indica and the Indigo will be seen to offer superior value to our South African customers."

"Over the coming years, we are hopeful that our Company will grow in South Africa and will have an opportunity to introduce additional models and participate in more product segments," he said.

Head of Tata Motors Communications Ruchika Bhatra said a network of 20 dealers would market the cars in the first phase.

"The distribution and marketing of the cars in South Africa will be handled by Accordian Investments (Pty) Ltd, a joint venture between the Imperial Group, Ukhamba Holdings (Pty) Ltd and Tata Africa," she said.

Bhatra said the Indica and Indigo were "among the best sellers" in India with close to half-a-million vehicles already being sold.

She said the two cars had also been introduced in several overseas markets, including Europe.

Bhatra added that Accordian Investments had already been managing the distribution of the Tata pick-up trucks in South Africa for the past few months.
