BSNL imposes fine of Rs 2 cr on Reliance Infocomm Ltd
Tuesday, October 26 2004 18:37 Hrs (IST)

Kolhapur: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has imposed a fine of Rs 2 crore on Reliance Infocomm Ltd, citing breach of contract regarding termination of international calls.

We have asked them (Reliance) to pay the fine on or before November 5," BSNL General Manager, Kolhapur, Deepak Tayal told reporters in Kolhapur on Tuesday (Oct 26, 2004).

The contract between the two-telecom companies "was misused" by Reliance Infocomm by using the BSNL point of interconnectivity (POI) to terminate both international and local calls, he said, adding, "This malpractice has been continuing since March 2002."

Tayal said that BSNL has introduced a new broadband scheme from January 1, 2005 for six tehsils of Ajara, Radhanager, Chandgat, Gadhinglaj, Shahuwadi and Panhala.
