Industry welcomes Cong-NCP coming back to power Saturday, October 16 2004 19:56 Hrs (IST)
Mumbai:
Welcoming the emergence of Congress-NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) as largest combine in the Assembly polls, industry captains today (Oct 16, 2004) said the new Government should work for turning Mumbai into Shanghai as stated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his election campaign.
Mahindra & Mahindra managing director and vice chairman Anand Mahindra said the Government should focus on raising the infrastructure of the State, particularly that of Mumbai and the city should emerge as Shanghai of India as stated by the Prime Minister.
Along with raising its infrastructure, Maharashtra should be developed as a prominent agro-exporting State, he said, adding that continuity of the Government was good for stability and development.
Bajaj Auto Ltd chairman Rahul Bajaj who expressed happiness over the results said the new Government would be stable as the Cong-NCP combine has the requisite support to form the Government.
"What is important, however, that the new Government should take important decisions like improving the fiscal condition of the State," he said.
Populism must now end, rational and logical decision making should become the order of the day and for this it is very important that the new Chief Minister should have the stature, capability and desire to take required steps, Bajaj added.
