Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has received top honours and bagged the prestigious 'International Asia-Pacific Quality Award' in the category 'Big Industry Organisation of more than 250 employees'.
RIL's Hazira manufacturing division emerged with the highest score from amongst entries from 22 countries.
H S Kohli, Executive Director of Reliance Industries Limited received the award at an award ceremony held at Hotel Edsa Shangri-La, Manila, Philippines from the Asia Pacific Quality Organization (APQO) President Charles A Aubrey II, Walt L. Hurd Foundation (WLHF) Chairman Dr James Harrington, and International Asia Pacific Quality Award (IAPQA) Chairman Jose Gonzalez-Prado.
The International Asia Pacific Quality Award has been established by the Asia Pacific Quality Organisation (APQO).
APQO is a non-profit organisation that serves as an umbrella group that brings together all the leading quality professional societies from countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
The governing body of APQO includes representatives from Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Sri Lanka, United States, and Vietnam.
The award is administered by 'The Walter L Hurd Foundation', a foundation established by the APQO.
The International Asia Pacific Quality Award Council provides management direction for the award.
Only those companies that have won Quality Awards at a national level in their respective countries are eligible to apply for the International Asia Pacific Awards.
A highly qualified panel of Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award Examiners reviews all applications for this award.
There are seven elements for which points are awarded: leadership, strategic planning, customer and market focus, information and analysis, human resource focus, process management, and business results.
Hazira manufacturing division of RIL is the recipient of two national quality awards namely the IMC Ramakrishna Bajaj National Quality Award 2002 and Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award from the Bureau for Indian Standards in 2001.
