Uma Bharti woos Infosys, Wipro to invest in MP Wednesday, August 18 2004 16:46 Hrs (IST)

Software biggies Infosys and Wipro have set "certain conditions" to invest in Madhya Pradesh, including an international airport in the State, Chief Minister Uma Bharti said today (Aug 18, 2004).
"They have laid certain conditions. If we fulfil them, they will come; that's what they have said", Bharti told reporters on the sidelines of meeting organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
Bharti, seeking to project Madhya Pradesh as an industry-friendly and forward-looking State, met Chairman of Infosys Technologies Limited (NASDAQ-listed ) N R Narayana Murthy today and Chairman of Wipro (NYSE-listed) Azim Premji yesterday.
"I have invited them to come to Madhya Pradesh...expand to Madhya Pradesh", she said. "They have asked for certain requirements like international airport which Madhya Pradesh does not have right now.... and some other facilities also".
Asked about the "specific requirements" of Infosys and Wipro, Bharti said she cannot give "all details".
She said she has told Murthy and Premji to send a team to explore investment opportunities in Madhya Pradesh and "also see other things".
Bharti, who was accompanied by the Minister for Commerce, Industry and Commercial Taxes Kailash Chawla, said she would approach the Union Civil Aviation Ministry seeking declaration of Bhopal or Indore airport as international airport.
