ONGC, Reliance among top 500 companies

London: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) and Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) are among the eight Indian companies figuring in "The Global 1000 List" of the world's most valuable companies.

The other Indian companies who made the grade are Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Wipro, Infosys Technologies, Hindustan Lever, Bharti Tele-Ventures and State Bank of India (SBI).

ONGC with a market value of $ 19.67 billion is globally ranked at 260 while RIL valued at $ 13.22 billion is ranked 402 in the 'Global 1000 List' published in the latest issue of Business Week, a leading business weekly.

IOC comes next ranked 638 with a value of $ 8.6 billion followed by Wipro (ranked 704- valued at $ 7.8 bn), Infosys Technologies (727- valued at $ 7.6 bn), Hindustan Lever (816- valued at $ 6.6 bn), Bharti Tele-Ventures (948- valued at $ 5.7 bn) and SBI (993 valued $ 5.4 bn).

Among the eight Indian companies, three are public sector undertakings - ONGC, IOC and SBI- while the rest represent the private sector.

The Top five global companies are all from the USA - General Electric with a market value of $ 328.11 billion heading the list.

Microsoft comes second with a market value of $ 284.43 billion followed by Exxon Mobil ($ 283.61 bn), Pfizer ($ 269.66 bn) and Wal-Mart Stores ($ 241.19 bn).
