Intel launches new Xeon processor-based platform Tuesday, June 29 2004 17:00 Hrs (IST)

Chip giant Intel Corporation today (June 29, 2004) launched a new Xeon processor-based platform and a host of products and technologies for its Intel Xeon processor family that it said significantly boost performance, memory and graphics capabilities for workstation platforms.
The platform features an advanced Intel Xeon processor and a more powerful chipset, boosting performance by up to 30 per cent over previous generations, Director-Solutions, Intel Technology India Pvt. Ltd, Shrikant Patil, told.
It also helps reduce power consumption and total cost of ownership, he added.
Through technologies such as DDR2 memory, PCI Express, a faster 800 MHz system bus, Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology, Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology, new platforms enjoy faster memory support, improved graphics performance and extended memory addressability, Intel said.
Quoting International Data Corporation, the company said more than eight in ten workstations shipping today are based on Intel architecture, which also powers more than 85 per cent of total server shipments.
And within the dual-processor segment, which is the largest and fastest-growing server segment, Intel architecture-based servers account for nine of ten servers shipped, Intel added.
