UPA Govt not to divest profit-making PSUs: Paswan

Bhilai: Announcing an investment of Rs 10,000 crore in Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), Union Steel Minister Ramvilas Paswan today (June 27, 2004) said unlike the previous Government, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government has decided not to divest profit-making PSUs.

After inaugurating the ambitious Rail Manufacturing Project of the most successful unit of SAIL here in Durg district, Paswan said by 2012 there was an estimate to increase the production of hot metal of BSP to seven million tonnes with an investment of Rs 10,000 crore.

Praising its work culture, he said BSP had never gone on loss and there was not a single day of strike, for which he announced Rs 1,000 award for all its 37,585 employees and also directed its management to consider more from their local end to boost the workers' morale.
