'BPO firms' price wars will hurt competitiveness'
Wednesday, June 9 2004 15:15 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: Wipro Spectramind Chairman and CEO Raman Roy today (June 9, 2004) cautioned that price wars between BPO (business process outsourcing) firms will hurt the Indian industry competitiveness in the long run.

"In the short term this may not hurt, because there is huge business, but long-term competitiveness will definitely hurt," Roy told reporters on the sidelines of the NASSCOM India ITES-BPO strategy summit 2004 here.

He said offering cheap prices by BPO firms would not necessarily get them customers.

"If people deliver at low prices, its great for the customers, great for India, but if they don't deliver that is where it hurts," Roy said.

He said there was enough business in the world for Indian firms and they need not undercut rates for snatching business in the short term.
