Mumbai: The Sensex opened sharply higher at 4792.01 as against yesterday's (May 31, 2004) close of 4759.62 and showed a sign of further rally on the stock exchange (BSE) at early stages today (Jun 1, 2004).

It touched a high of 4844.22 before being quoted at 4838.80 at 10.00 hrs (IST), a steep rise of 82.00 points.

After getting battered for the past five successive days, share prices recovered most of its overnight losses on good buying support at lower levels by foreign funds and operators.
