BSNL will not be privatised, says CMD
Sunday, May 30 2004 14:36 Hrs (IST)

Agartala: Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), V P Sinha, today (May 30, 2004) ruled out any possibility of privatisation of his organization and stated that it would continue as a 100 per cent public sector unit (PSU).

''There is no question of privatisation of any wing or any part of BSNL, it would continue as 100 percent PSU,'' he told reporters today.

''We have experienced that private sector monopoly is worse than public sector monopoly. Let there be competitions between private sectors and public sectors,'' he said.

He said telecom service in the Northeastern region would be further improved but the geographical conditions like hilly terrain are the main hurdles for the development of the service.
