"India must shine for all Indians. To declare India is shining (by NDA government), was in my humble view, mocking at the poor of India," Chidambaram said, adding the poorer
section have protested against such a campaign by voting NDA out of power.
In his first press conference after assuming office, Chidambaram said, "We want India to shine. This can happen only through good economics, good politics and hard work."
"I promise, that under the leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, good economics and hard work. I think we can also promise on behalf of the United Progressive Alliance, that we will bring good and sound politics when we appraise and layout the programmes (Common Minimum Programme) and implement them," he said.
