Stock markets crash on prospects of hung Parliament

Mumbai: Stock markets crashed today (May 11, 2004), dropping by over 160 points, on prospects of a hung Parliament predicted by most of the exit polls after the last phase of polling yesterday (May 10, 2004).

The BSE sensex was down over 160 points within minutes of the commencement of trading and was quoted at 5390 at about 1025 hrs, a slide of about 3 per cent over yesterday's closing.

Nifty was down by about 45 points at 1724.
