Sensex records huge gains, surges by 66 points Thursday, May 6 2004 12:39 Hrs (IST)
Mumbai:
The Sensex opened above the 5,700-mark with a huge gain of 64 points at 5,750. All-round buying support saw the index spurt to an early high of 5,772, and is now up 66 points at 5,752.
The Nifty also has commenced on a higher note, and is up 22 points at 1,832.
Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) counters continued their upward march following good buying support from operators as well as institutional investors on exception of mustering enough numbers by NDA-alliance to form a Government, which could not slow down the disinvestment process, a broker said.
Banking stocks also attracted investors attention and were quoted sharply higher.
Depicting the upsurge in PSUs and Banks, the sectorial BSE-PSU and Bankex were quoted sharply up by over 90 and 78 points at 10.50 hrs (IST).
Index-based shares like RIL, Infosys Tech, Tata Motors, Tsco, L&T, Grasim, GACL, ONGC, BHEL, HPCL, SBI and few others showed sharp to moderate gains.
According to some brokers, the mood is still cautious as fifth and final round of polls on May 10 will mainly decide the future signals for the market.
