India to discuss fallout of 'law against outsourcing' Tuesday, January 27 2004 22:44 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
India will be raising with the US the fallout of the recent Federal law against outsourcing, official sources said tonight (Jan 27, 2004).
"We will be requesting the US Government to see how it can undo the damage," the sources said when asked about the American law barring doling out sub-contracts to India and other countries by American companies to cut their costs.
The legal measure, originally sponsored by Republican Senator from Ohio George Voinovich and others, was included in a $ 328-billion spending bill passed by the US Senate last week.
The sources felt that Britain was "quite active" to the fact that the jobs lost as a result of outsourcing were not much and in the longer run would not be detrimental to the country's interests as apprehended. On the contrary, it will prove to be beneficial. The British model could be emulated by other countries, the sources said.
