XMLstar in talks with firms in USA, EU for BPO
Tuesday, January 27 2004 10:02 Hrs (IST)

Kolkata: XMLstar LLC of United States, which has opened its wholly-owned subsidiary in India, said it was in advanced stage of talks with various firms in the US and European Union (EU) for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) contracts, even as the US Senate last week passed a law barring doling out sub-contracts to India and other countries by American companies to cut their costs.

Chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director of Indian subsidiary, XMLstar India Pvt Ltd, Supratim Sen said, "Though the parent company is already in advanced talks with various firms, we in India are also in talks with some companies in Kolkata with modern and surplus IT infrastructure so that operations can start immediately."

Sen said they had managed about 17,000 square feet of space with state-of-the-art facilities at Salt Lake through strategic alliance.

He said apart from BPO activities, they also plan to address Asia-Pacific market from India and as such XMLstar India plans to be present in Japan, Singapore, China, Korea and Dubai within a year.

"Besides marketing our in-house products and services, we will also focus on domestic and offshore BPO activities," Sen said.

He said XMLstar plans to introduce a complete e-governance project based on Oracle and Microsoft platforms, Document Management System, Student Management System for universities and colleges, Housing Complex management system.

Sen said their focus areas in Asia-Pacific included localisation of websites by offering language service in more than 65 languages.

He said the Federal Law passed last week was not only difficult to enforce, but it will have only marginal effect on Indian companies.

"Inflow of US Government orders is only marginal as most of these works are taken by US companies, which in turn outsource it to various subsidiaries," he said.

The company also plans to enter global consulting in offering strategy, global marketing and expansion, IT networking and infrastructure apart from other services.
