Wipro Q3 net profit jumps 19 pc to Rs 274 cr Wednesday, January 21 2004 11:04 Hrs (IST)

Software major Wipro Limited today (Jan 21, 2004) reported a net profit of Rs 274 crore for the third quarter ending December 31, 2003, showing a 19 per cent jump over the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal.
Revenue for the quarter was Rs 1521 crore, a 37 per cent rise, the company said announcing the Q3 results.
Wipro said the net profit recorded was the highest-ever quarterly profit after tax posted by it.
Global IT services and products revenue increased 41 per cent year on year, at Rs 1147 crore, it said. Twenty-four new clients were added during the quarter including two in IT-enabled services (ITES) business, it said.
Wipro Chairman Azim Premji said sustained volume growth coupled with stable pricing environment and operational improvements resulted in Wipro posting its highest-ever quarterly profit after tax.
"Business momentum continues to be strong," he said, adding that looking ahead for the quarter ending March, 2004, they expected revenue from its global IT services business to be approximately $ 269 million.
