Thursday, January 15 2004 17:27 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: A high-level World Bank delegation will visit New Delhi next week to interact with the Union IT Ministry on the various E-governance initiatives of the Government.

The delegation will discuss the E-governance initiatives of the Centre and provide inputs on improving the services by the Government to the citizens, World Bank Senior Advisor in the International Trade Department Carlos Braga said in Bangalore today (Jan 15, 2004) on the sidelines of the Bangalore Workshop on Information and Communications Technology for Sustainable Development.

He said though India has made substantial progress in providing information on the internet, the country was yet to perform in delivering services on the web to its citizens.

The World Bank, Braga said, is in discussions with the Sri Lankan Government to transform the island nation into the information age.

He said a project paper which would encompass the entire spectrum of using Information Technology for the society in Sri Lanka would be prepared in the next six months and placed before the World Bank board.
