Shaw Wallace are among top 20 corporate and individual Income Tax (IT) defaulters, Lok Sabha was
informed today (Dec 5, 2003).
Finance Minister Jaswant Singh said as per information given by his Ministry, another big bull Hiten P
Dalal also figured among the top 20 with highest outstanding demand as on June 30 this year.
Besides them, the list includes Sahara India Financial Corporation, Sahara India Mutual Benefit Co Ltd,
First Global Stock Broking, Rolex Holding and Ganpati Exports Ltd, Singh said.
Other defaulters included Northern Coalfields, Industrial Development Board of India (IDBI) and Videsh
Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL).
Most of the assessees in the list were notified assessees where recovery was possible only with the
approval of special courts.
Some cases are pending before the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR), where
recovery has not been possible in view of provisions of section 22 of Sick Industrial Companies (Special
Provisions) Act, 1985, the Finance Minister said.
