Mumbai: The market remained upbeat with the SENSEX opening strong in line with a fresh rally in blue-
chip stocks during morning trading on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on October 17 on sustained
flow of FII investments.
The BSE Benchmark 30-share Index opened firm at 4912.27 as against the October 16 close of
4887.32 and later moved up to a high at 4938.68 before being quoted at 4928.24 at 10:40 hours
(IST).
Heavyweights like RIL, HLL, Tata Motors, HPCL and others were quoted sharply up on fresh buying
support from speculators on the back of heavy net purchases by foreign institutional investors (FIIs)
during the week.
Index-based shares like ACC, BHEL, HCL Tech, HDFC, Ranbaxy Lab, Satyam computers, SBI, Zee
Telefilms, Infosys Tech, L&T and MTNL also showed smart gains.
Brokers said tech stocks were expected to move upwards during the session with the flow of positive
working results even as the market is a little cautious.
