New Delhi: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has asked private cell operator BPL to clear
dues worth Rs 10 crore payable to VSNL (Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd), while asking the Tata group
company (VSNL) not to snap its Internet ties with the private cell operator.
TRAI has also given a three-day notice to BPL to explain why it failed to make payments due towards
VSNL which carried international long distance calls originating from BPL's network, according to
sources.
VSNL has earlier threatened BPL that it would snap its links if dues were not cleared immediately and
had also sought TRAI's intervention in this matter.
It was only on TRAI's request that VSNL agreed to wait for the three-day duration for BPL to explain its
position to the regulatory authority.
Sources said that TRAI had asked BPL to make payments on priority basis and explain reasons for
delay, simultaneously.
