Maintain WLL-cellular distinction: TDSAT tells govt
Saturday, September 27 2003 14:21 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Appellate telecom tribunal TDSAT on September 27 asked the government to ensure that distinction is maintained between Wireless in Local Loop (limited mobile) services provided by basic operators and cellular services.

Disposing of the petition by cellular operators, Telecom Dispute Settlement Appellate Tribunal said it was up to the government to see as to how this distinction was maintained.

Hearing the petition, the full Bench comprising chairman Justice D P Wadhwa and members R U S Prasad and T R Dasgupta also asked the government to set up a task force comprising representatives from institutions like Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and CSIR along with telecom regulator Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to work out guidelines for the use of appropriate software technology to ensure that licensing conditions were adhered to by all the players.
