Mumbai: The SENSEX opened firm and rose past 3,800-mark during the morning trading in line with a
fresh rally in select heavy weighted stocks on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on July 31 on
sustained purchases by Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) as well as speculators.
The BSE sensitive index opened remarkably higher at 3,796.53 as against July 30 close of 3,780.42 and
later surged up to a high at 3,805.94 before being quoted at 3,801.57 at 10.45 am (IST).
Brokers said FIIs, which have made net purchases of Rs 183 crore in the first couple of sessions were
continuous buyers in select blue-chip counters.
Speculators too were seen making fresh commitments in several counters, encouraged by flow of better-
than-expected first quarter financial results.
Index-based stocks like MTNL, Satyam Computers, RIL, BHEL, Bajaj Auto, Glaxo, Grasim Ind, Tisco and
some others were quoted sharply higher.
However, HLL, ACC, SBI and a few others showed moderate losses due to profit booking by investors.
