Chennai: Indonesia would remove "all impediments" for Indian businessmen for visiting their country in
connection with their business commitments, a top Indonesian government official said.
Describing the detention of Polaris chief Arun Jain at Jakarta recently as unfortunate, Udin Saifuddin,
deputy marketing chief of the Indonesian Ministry of Culture and Tourism, told reporters on July 26 that
such things would not happen in future.
The Indonesian government had revoked its policy of issuing free tourist Visas following "unstable
conditions" around the world. However, Indians would not face any problem in getting Visas to visit his
country, he said.
He said his country had identified India as a potential market to sell the country's tourism as both
countries enjoyed cultural relations for many centuries. In 2000, 42,000 Indians visited his country,
which went up to 42,600 in the next year.
Most of the Indians who visited his country were there for business purposes, he said.
He said negotiations were on with the Indian government for introducing direct flights from Mumbai and
Chennai to Indonesia.
